The Most Unofficial Glossary Of Cannabinoid Terms. Five terms you should know before buying hemp products.

Hemp – The term hemp refers to cannabis varieties with low THC content (< 0.3 %). With the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp is the federally legal category of cannabis.

CBD (Cannabidiol) – Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the many active cannabinoids found in the naturally occurring flowers of cannabis. CBD is the non-psychoactive cannabinoid widely believed to be therapeutic in treating many mind & body ailments.

Cannabinoid – Chemical compounds unique to the cannabis plant. Marijuana’s most prevalent cannabinoid is THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). Hemp’s most robust cannabinoid is CBD. Even though clinical research is still ongoing, both cannabinoid’s work with the body’s natural endocannabinoid system to benefit a variety of ailments like pain & inflammation.

Hemp Extract – Hemp extract is oil removed from the phytocannabinoid rich resin glands of the hemp plant. Through scientific extraction processes like alcohol (ethanol) or CO2, the oil is then further distilled into cannabinoid rich oils.

Hemp Oil – This term causes the most confusion in the cannabis industry.  Hemp oil is hemp extract blended with a carrier oil (fat molecules). How much of the hemp oil is introduced into the body and made active differs based on the body’s endocannabinoid system and the type of hemp extract and carrier oil used.

Note: Currently, most ‘hemp oil’ sold on Amazon is hemp seed oil combined with other botanicals, all of which contain no active cannabinoids. With the explosion of CBD, many vendors classify their product as hemp oil. Hemp oil is a more generic term favored by the government currently. However, the term also confuses buyers. Hemp oil may or may not contain CBD or other cannabinoids. Look for quality hemp extracts like broad or full spectrum extracts that contain cannabinoids and use high quality carrier oil ingredients like MCT oil.

Meet our phytocannabinoid farmers.

Beast x Outpost Cannabis Co. (California)

Outpost Cannabis Company is a family owned farm nestled high in the mountains of Santa Barbara County. Known for its warm, mediterranean climate, the distinctly sunny, hot days and cooler nights of the Santa Barbara region are optimal for growing consistently great cannabis. The location also has the perfect combination of sun and coastal wind, giving the plants just the right amount of nutrients and stress to produce flowers with the most unique and desirable terpene profiles.

Growing Practices

Living soil: All of Outpost Cannabis Co. plants are grown in living soil that includes our proprietary blend of natural nutrients, bacteria, and friendly fungi.

Minimal intervention:  They use biodynamic growing practices for both greenhouse and outdoor plants, letting nature do its work. Additionally, the greenhouse plants are farmed with minimal intervention techniques, using natural pest control and zero harmful chemicals.

Solar-Powered: Outpost greenhouses are operated with sustainable practices and 100% solar-powered, to produce a fully sun-grown flower.

Beast x Hudson Hemp (New York)

With over 150 years of industry experience, Hudson Hemp was one of the first companies licensed to grow hemp in New York State. They use regenerative agriculture practices that supports soil, life and the planet—going beyond sustainability to actually replenish ecosystems, nurture biodiversity, and sequester carbon.

They extract hemp with certified organic ethanol, through a cold and slow process. This purification and distillation method results in a high quality broad-spectrum CBD oil, free from all solvents.

Farming Practices

Building soil: The principal goal of a regenerative agricultural system is to build and maintain the soil’s ability to recycle nutrients, to capture and hold water, and minimize the farm’s dependence on outside inputs.

Carbon Sequestration: They build topsoil through embracing natural biodiversity. They pull more carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and back into the soil.

Closed Loop System: The regenerative future of agriculture depends upon closed loop models. Hudson Hemp farms according to the principle that in a natural system, there is no waste; what is not used by one organism is energy for another.
